That is simply very cool, finally a great use for that print button, let's rename it to the "direct-hack" button! I agree! Direct-Print is almost useless anyway Approve the Cookies This website uses cookies to improve your user experience. By using this site, you agree to our use of cookies and our Privacy Policy.

I never downloaded the hack so I really can't comment on if that actually changes the higher iso performance or just allows you to use higher iso, but I've been amazed at how good iso looks on the T2i. Whether that's worth an upgrade or not is dependant on your priorities I guess, but the big high res screen sure is nice! Totally agree the high ISO performance on the D is fantastic and coming from the D I'm now wanting to go back to places and situations where I just got an average image to where I can now take good photos.

The biggest reason why I like the hack is that it allows the use of spot metering on my camera. Doesn't hurt anything to have the hack, if I need the features, I use them As no one is mentioning how one hacks, I'm guessing it's not kosher??

If it is, how exactly does one do it? Thanks, Lepewhi. One thing to keep in mind is that when Canon makes thier Digic image processors, they make ONE chip for all of thier cameras. They also write ONE program for the chip that dictates the features that the chip will have. So then, for each camera model, they simply allow or lock out certain features particular to that camera.

It also unlocks spot metering, which is very useful. Flashing firmware on Canon's is very easy to do. All you have to do is Google your particular camera and see if there is a "patch" or "hack" for it. Then you will likely find the instructions on how to do it. I would do some research first before you hack. Make sure it's safe and what you want before you try.

My camera is old enough that voiding the warranty is not an issue and if I broke it trying to flash a "hacked" firmware, then I was ready to buy a new camera. But so far the hack works great and opens some new doors for my camera. All of my camera buddies really think the new features are cool and were worth the hack. If I ever get tired of it on my camera, all simply have to do is take the CF card out and reformat it. This is not a firmware hack.

Canon cameras using a Digic processor have the ability to temporarily install additional software on bootup. This does not hack the firmware, it merely temporarily adds functionality that automatically disappears when you power down.

Can you kindly point me to the hack and instruction and let me successfully install in my idle XTI in a smooth way. Thanks for the explaination. I'll do some recearch. I found some info that said that one had to have a fully charged external battery to the best of my memory. I don't have an external battery pack. I was hoping that this could be done through the card reader and not through the battery.

I'll have to do some recearch. Thanks for any info and thanks again, Lepewhi. I've been looking up the instructions on how to do this hack and it looks daunting. How long does it take and why doesn't Canon offer this directly through their website, hopefully less complicated? I'm not a technophobe, but WOW! I don't know if I could call it "complicated", but you need to read and follow the directions exactly as they are stated. I won't lie, it took me a couple of tries before I completely understood what they were saying.
