I am the proud owner of a SX, I always thought they were the epitomy of 70's technology, for the most part all the heavy hitters of that era were in the wattage wars till after After then they started to scrimp on the quality of the units, even though they might have produced more wattage, build quality suffered some.

The was probably the best quality, easiest to repair, receiver ever made. I suspect this unit will last another 40 years, long after I'm gone! Beautiful, Powerful, Reliable, and a sound that only the high end receivers can deliver. If you have the opportunity to get one, pull the trigger, have it redone and revel in the warm tubelike sound for the rest of your life.

Enjoy the music!! Reviewed Nov 09th, by craigsx. What power turns normal speakers to mush It looks better both lite up and at idle and ease of use is better too. Love switching between FM, Tap and phono with just a push of a button. Reviewed May 08th, by curioustech. This receiver is a real Monster power. It has that warm sound that I love and remember. When I found my first one, I had it recapped and it should be good to go for a very long time. Reviewed Jan 30th, by guest. A genuine audio masterpiece of Pioneer. It surely reminds us, the U60, of the wonderful sounds of the past. Reviewed Mar 01st, by slimjim My dream came true!

It's near mint except the wood which has it's normal wear. It has already been recapped just needed another cleaning which I have spent all weekend cleaning every piece of it with great care.

I have the speakers to support this and I have a QA Quad amp coming next week. I listened to it before I bought it. It's the bomb! If you have a chance to buy on of these I highly recommend it as they are soooo choice! SLim Jim. When playing 4 ohm speakers very loudly the receiver will cut out temporarily and continue right away, is this normal?

Are you using two pair of 4 ohm speakers? If so I am surprised that the unit has not yet failed smoked.

You should be thankful that the unit has a protection circuit built in. Read the owner's manual and it may talk about the protection circuit. Also, I noticed the specs do not specify a 4 ohm rating, so I would be careful. These last forever, have enjoyed mine for 30 years!

Thanks for all the info here on the SX I just bought a non working one, from a hi-fi store with all risks. When I saw it on the window, I asked it and bought it!

It is very very rare in here, Turkey. Now the problem is it doesn't have both power amp boards, AWH Does anybody know where can I find them? I look for bidding sites for donor parts, but there are no parts or already sold out. I want to bring back to life this monster Hello, I am working on a with a power supply issue.

I downloaded the schematic here and see pencil notes suggesting the same issue. Long shot but wondering if could find the person who kindly shared the schematic and could they share their eventual findings on the issue.

Hello, I did not put the pencil makes in, but have worked on many Pioneer power supplies. Check the 2sc for open base to emitter or greater than 1vdc across junction when unit on Check the 2SD for open base to emitter or greater than 1vdc across junction when unit on Check also the Zener diode and small signal diode in the circuit as well, for short or open condition Last but not least check the resistors for the rated value, and make sure that none of the electrolytics are shorted.

If not check the 2SC transistor for open. And relating to the below comment, I am active with repair direction specifics on AudioKarma as well as HiFiengine. I also have done repairs for many years. Thank you. Purchased brand new in Columbus, Ohio in and it still kicks ass!

Not bad for a system that is over 35 years old. Serviced only 3 times and replaced CAPS, and some 'dusty' tuner components. I also matched this receiver with 2 Pioneer HPM floor speakers well, by today's standards you could call them small condominiums. Giant 15" monster woofers.

Thanks to finally having the service manual. I've owned this receiver for about 8 years, and now that I'm back working as an electronics tech, have every conceivable piece of test equipment available to me, and a manager who encourages me to work on personal gear, this baby is going to be special! New PS caps, poly caps in all the audio paths, replacing the speaker terminals, and some tuner mods as well. Just pulled the trigger and purchaced a sx Thanks for all the info.
