Resolving microphone and line-in problems in windows 7

It had previously been working fine before that. The mic was fully plugged into the correct port, and the microphone was not muted. The new headset also came with a USB soundcard. In all instances, in my Recording Devices tab, the mic is detected. There are two other devices that I have disabled, Line in and Stereo Mix. In properties, the microphone volume is and is not muted. The microphone boost is at 10dB. In the enhancements tab, the Disable all sound effects box is checked.

Has anyone else had this sort of problem? If you did, what were your steps to resolve? Not quite sure. I would hate to believe that I had extremely bad luck with 2 Sennheiser headsets, one that is brand new with a mic that is DOA. This thread is locked.
