I'm mentioning these as a comment because I haven't used either for this specific purpose, so please take them as possibilities, not as definite solutions. Show 2 more comments. Active Oldest Votes. I have not found one that recognizes different symbols. This feature could be worth the trouble for digitizing lines, but I have never had to do this. The program returns each point as an x-y matrix. See the tutorial in R-Journal GrabIt! Browser based, extracts data from images. Reviewed here. Available in Ubuntu repository.
I can't compare, as it's the only one I've tried; but I found it very easy to use. The package is available on GitHub github. Can you link to the figure s in question? When you say 'intersect', do you mean the point is contained within the axis and thus does not appear? Show 7 more comments. The most important operators are the first column contains coordinate specification for an operator, the second contains the operator and the third is operator name : x y m moveto x y l lineto x y width height re rectangle h closepath In most cases it is sufficient to know these four operators for recovering the data.
In this case each segment of the line is encoded like this: Here is how you can extract coordinates of horizontal ticks: Now check the differences between ticks: Differences[reHorTicks] From these differences you can see how precise is positioning of the ticks in the PDF file. Do you have a good reference for best practices around which vector format s?
Different journals accept different subsets of vector formats. In general I expect better quality when there are lesser transformations from one format to another. But exact answer depends on software used by the publisher. Note also that usually journals recommend against any conversions of the graphs produced by your graphing software.
So if you can export as EPS it is probably the best option. After defining all necessary parameters, you can start the graph data extraction process. You can take the help of graph data extraction steps which I have included in the description of each software. In some software, you can also save the graph itself. I also like the graph viewing tools provided in some software that lets you view a graph with all its value or without any value.
In one of these software, you also get the Analysis feature through which you can perform Curve Length and Polygon Area analysis. Overall, all of these graph data extractors are feature rich and quite easy to use. Go through the list to know more about these software. Graph Data Extractor is my favorite software because it is one of the simplest software to extract specific graph points form graph image.
I also like its ability to extract graph data from multiple graphs in different image formats. Graph Data Extractor is a free software to extract data from graph for Windows. To extract graph coordinates, it lets you manually locate the points coordinates over the graph image through the mouse. Plus, a side panel to specify the range of the graph is also provided by it.
After defining the graph range and graph coordinates, you can extract the graph data in the Text TXT file format.
